Latest NewsDid you know? From 6th April 2016 all dogs must be microchipped by law.

  • From 6 April 2016, it will be a legal requirement to have your dog microchipped under the Microchipping of Dogs (England) Regulations 2015 and the Microchipping of Dogs (Wales) Regulations 2015. Dog owners are expected to have their pets microchipped before 6 April.
  • As part of the new law, it will also be a requirement for keepers and breeders to keep their registered details up-to-date. This includes if you move house or change your telephone number.
  • Microchipping is important because it means that dogs can be reunited with their owners if they become lost or are stolen
  • To be ready for the change in law, the RSPCA advises dog owners to chip, if they haven’t already done so, and check their contact details are up to date
  • If you are buying or selling a puppy or a dog, it must be microchipped by the seller or the rehomer.
  • Sadly, many dogs end up in rescue organisations because their owners have moved house and not updated their contact details* [*Just under a quarter (22%) of strays were passed on to welfare organisations or dog kennels after the statutory period (Dogs Trust stray dog survey)]
